The infrared beam from the garage door opener sensors isn t able to be seen by human eyes. The light is emitted from one side of the garage door to a receiving unit on the other side of the door. Garage door sensors work by shooting a beam of infrared light across the entrance of your garage to the sensor on the other side. This system allows them to detect obstructions like your car or a kid on a bike.

On the garage door motor there will be two knobs or dials to adjust the opener and the reverse sensor. The units are placed near the ground on either side of the garage door. If they re turned on in both the sensors then there is no issue with the power supply. Look for small led lights on the sensors.

Garage door sensors work using an infrared beam of light. Refer to the owner s manual to determine which is. Do both garage sensors need to be green. If the path between the sensors is unbroken the door will open and close normally.

If you find the lights turned off in one or both the sensors it indicates that there is a problem in power supply. The sensors are located low on each side of the garage door and the 2 beams meet performing a connection. The sensors are normally about 4 inches above the ground. As long as the beam isn t interrupted the door will open or close normally.

A common cause of a malfunctioning garage door sensor is lack of power supply.
